The Canada immigration (IRCC) carried out its very first Express Entry draw for the newly introduced Education Occupations on May 1, 2025.
The Express Entry Draw
1000 Invitations to Apply (ITA) were issued to Express entry candidates with the CRS cut-off of 479 points. This compares well to the cut-off of 521 in the last Express Entry Draw for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates on February 5, 2025. Check out the full list of Express Entry draws, here.
Education Occupations Eligible for Invitation
- Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants (NOC: 43100)
- Instructors of persons with disabilities (NOC: 42203)
- Early childhood educators and assistants (NOC: 42202)
- Elementary school and kindergarten teachers (NOC: 41221)
- Secondary school teachers (NOC: 41220)
Category-based rounds of invitations were introduced by IRCC in 2023 to supplement other round types (i.e. general, program-specific OR PNP rounds) to meet the identified economic goal. The categories were updated in 2025.
Eligibility Criteria for Applicants
Candidates in the Express Entry pool must be eligible for a specific category. Eligibility criteria for each category are specific to the respective category, but generally are based on the stated work experience of
- At least 6 months
- In the last 3 years
- Full-time (at least 30 hours per week) or Equivalent part-time
- continuous (without break, in 1 employment)
- in a single NOC occupation from the list of occupations in the particular category
- in Canada or abroad
Next Steps After Receiving an ITA
The invited candidates have 60 days to submit a perfected Application under the Express Entry program for permanent residency of Canada. This Application involves completion of an Online application, submission of required supporting documents and payment of fees.
Candidates have a one-time chance at taking advantage of this opportunity and to become permanent resident. Minor innocent mistakes/ omissions can lead to rejection of the Application.
