Canadian Immigration Plan for 2014

Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has presented the Annual Immigration Plan for 2014 to the parliament.

As announced, Canada plans to welcome 240,000 to 265,000 new permanent residents in 2014. This is the same number that CIC has been working with for many years. However, it appears that CIC will focus on higher proportion of economic immigrants, compared to family class and refugees.

CIC plans to increase admissions under the Canadian Experience Class and Provincial Nominee Programs in 2014.

We will continue to drive down backlogs, reduce wait times and improve service. We will continue to reunite families. We will continue to give refuge to the world’s most vulnerable,” said Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander.

Canada is set to launch its version of the Expression of Interest (EOI) system for immigrant selection in January, 2015.
